The newly expanded BA (Hons) Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University is a dynamic and experimental art course with a global outlook. It contributes and responds to the evolving nature of art practice, and encourages its students to experiment with sculpture, performance, sound, installation, text, moving image, photography, drawing, painting, printmaking, animation and digital processes.
BA (Hons) Fine Art is delivered by nationally and internationally recognised artists and practitioners who encourage students to explore a wide range of Art practices in high quality workshops and studios, with an emphasis on one-to-one tutorial advice that is tailored to an individual student’s needs.
Students are required to be self-motivated, critically reflective, proactive and engaged. They are encouraged to develop innovative strategies leading to unique and imaginative outcomes. This is explored through tutorials, seminars, group presentations, discussions, workshops and lectures.
Beyond the primary aim of developing an individual identity, students gain experience of collective approaches through projects, theoretical seminars, collaborative on and off-site activities and live curatorial projects delivered by core staff and visiting professionals. The course also delivers a healthy and diverse Visiting Lecturer programme.
An integral critical studies programme encourages critical thinking, enabling our students to understand their work, and the work of others, within a diverse range of historical, philosophical and cultural contexts.
The studios act as a focus for art production, providing a platform for consideration, formulation, production, realisation and presentation of ideas and artworks.
The course is supported by an unique collaborative e-learning tool that supports dialogue, feedback and the sharing of research and visual outcomes.
BA (Hons) Fine Art is located in Leeds city centre in the award-winning Broadcasting Place Arts Building. The course has partnerships with the Henry Moore Institute, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Project Space Leeds and the Northern Art Prize.
